The Collingwood Magpies are preparing for their round one clash against the dual – reigning premiers, the Sunshine Coast Lightning on Saturday afternoon.
The last time the two met was back in round 11 of last year’s season where the Lightning claimed a two-goal victory.
But with a new coach and a fresh line up, the Magpies are keen to make their mark in the competition starting with game one.
This will also be the first occasion Geva Mentor and Kelsey Browne will face off against their former team.
Young goaler, Gabi Sinclair will put on the black and white for the very first time this Saturday as she makes her national league debut.
Dynamic defender, Mel Bragg will also step up replacing Matilda Garrett who is recovering from an injury to her right ankle.
The Pies will also be without co-captain Madi Browne who is currently being monitored after injuring her right knee during a pre-season game earlier this year.
This will see Kelsie Rainbow elevated into the Magpies mid-court.
The double header will see the Melbourne Vixens face off against the Queensland Firebirds at 3pm before the Magpies take to the court at 5.30pm at Melbourne Arena.
