Collingwood Magpies coach Rob Wright is very excited about what his young team can achieve in the 2020 season.
Wright addressed a large crowd of Magpies supporters at the Season Launch at the Glasshouse on Wednesday night.
He was keen to impress on the audience that his team can still compete with the best despite the departure or unavailability of experienced players like Ash Brazill (knee) and Nat Medhurst (pregnancy).
“This is the absolute opportunity now to stand up as a group and see what we’ve got,” Wright said, adding that the Magpies had lost 750 games worth of experience since the end of last season.
“Our third-most experienced player now has 29 caps.
“So we are an incredibly unknown group - so unknown that we don’t even know [what we can achieve].
“This situation has just created the ultimate for us of going, ‘How exciting, what’s possible?’”
“I reckon every one of [our new players] is going to be a gem. That’s why we picked them.
“So I’m super-excited about what this season is going to bring.
“I have no idea what it’s going to bring, but I tell you, it’s going to be a ride and I can’t wait for the journey.”
