Magpies Netball is pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Upton as Assistant Coach of the Collingwood Magpies for 2019.
Upton returns to Collingwood after leading the Tasmanian Magpies to the Australian Netball League (ANL) premiership in 2018. Upton was an assistant with Collingwood in 2017.
“It’s been an amazing journey, alongside the training partners, staff and players throughout the entire season”, Upton said of her time as head coach of the ANL operation.
“When everyone has such a high work rate and gets their job done, it just proves anything is possible.”
The success Upton enjoyed with the Tasmanian Magpies piqued her interest in a return to Collingwood and the Suncorp Super Netball competition, this time as an assistant to new coach Rob Wright.
“I’m looking forward to the challenges of SSN as I know each week will be hard with no predictability, but I’m very excited as to what lies ahead”, Upton told Magpies Netball.
She hopes to assist Wright in building a team culture similar to that which enabled the Tasmanian Magpies to win the club’s first piece of silverware.
“Ultimately the success came down to a change in culture, where everyone was extremely close and united,” Upton said.
“Next year will be something new and fresh, for a variety of reasons, and I’m excited to see what we can make out of the energy that change brings.”
