It is finally time for our Collingwood Magpies to battle it out against our cross-town rivals, the Melbourne Vixens this Saturday 18 February at 7pm at Hisense Arena.

The highly anticipated match is sure to kick off the Suncorp Super Netball League with a bang. Some fantastic match-ups are expected, particularly in the defensive circle and there is sure to be some tension towards former Vixens Madi Robinson and Alice Teague-Neeld from the opposition.

Senior Coach Kristy Keppich-Birrell is confident in the team’s preparations and says it is now up to the players to leave everything out on the court.

“Whist our preparations have been tested with the absence of four Magpies who were competing in the 2017 Netball Quad Series, they were still practising and using the same combinations developed in training at the Holden Centre. The six other players were also improving these combinations back home.”

She stressed, “whilst there is a significant amount of external pressure placed on the team, the main challenge is to ensure each individual player is living up to the expectations that they have placed on themselves. And also that they achieve the goals they have set together as a team.”

The Magpies are also confident in Cody Lange’s progress and are excited that she will take the court for the first time since her injury in tonight’s practice match against the Melbourne University Lightning.

Keppich-Birrell’s message to fans is “to embrace the playing group as a whole and not only what they bring to each match, but also the sport. Also remember to acknowledge the personality of the team and to not shy away from who we are."

Tickets for the Vixens v Magpies match can still be purchased through Ticketek.
