Collingwood Magpies Netball v Adelaide Thunderbirds
There’s no place like home, and that’s exactly where the Magpies will be when they take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Hisense Arena on Saturday night.
Both teams are yet to secure a win in 2018, but with the Magpie Army roaring in the stands, the Pies will be looking to hit the winner’s list and kick-start their SSN season.
In round two, the Magpies faced the league-leading West Coast Fever at Perth Arena. Despite a competitive first quarter, the Fever – with another dominant display from shooter Jhaniele Fowler – raced away to an 11-goal victory.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positive signs for the Magpies. Experienced mid-courter Shae Brown took to the court for the first time in 2018, while 19-year-old Matilda Garrett made her SSN league debut.
Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds have also had a difficult start to their season, being on the wrong side of two comprehensive defeats. Over the weekend, the Giants were too good and too strong, running away with a 71-48 victory at Priceline Stadium.
Round 14, 2017 - Collingwood Magpies (49) defeated Adelaide Thunderbirds (47) at Titanium Security Arena in Adelaide.
“We’ve trained really hard and we believe in ourselves and our game plan, so now, it’s just about executing on court,” Collingwood captain Madi Robinson said of the Magpies’ upcoming clash with the Thunderbirds.
“There have been many positives to come out of the first two games. In round two, we saw Matilda Garrett take to the court for the first time and there’s been some incredible patches of match play and some really good turnover ball.
“We can’t wait to get home and take on the Thunderbirds in front of our Magpie Army. They provide that extra spark of support and energy. We’re keen to get back on court.”
