Magpies Take Flight In Tasmania

The Collingwood Football Club today launched a partnership with the Tasmanian Government to support and develop a wide range of netball programs and events in Tasmania over the next three years.

The Collingwood Magpies Netball Team will work closely with Netball Tasmania to support grassroots netball and pathways to the elite level for talented young netballers.

Australian Diamonds star player and Collingwood Magpies Captain Madi Robinson said “We are really excited about the opportunity to promote and grow netball in Tasmania. We want every young girl in Tasmania to grow up dreaming of playing netball for her state, and to know that there is a clear pathway through to elite netball with the Collingwood Magpies and the Australian Diamonds.”

The Collingwood Magpies will have a strong presence in Tasmania hosting community programs and events, supporting local netball associations and clubs and developing a high performance elite athlete program for talented young Tasmanian netballers.

The Magpies, together with Netball Tasmania will also launch a Tasmanian Magpies Team in the Australian National League.

Talented young players from the Tasmanian ANL squad will have the opportunity to train at the Magpies elite training facilities in Melbourne, be part of the Magpies squad and attend Magpies SSN matches.

The Collingwood Magpies have a star studded line up featuring six Australian Diamonds players in Sharni Layton, April Brandley, Kim Ravaillion, Caitlin Thwaites, Madi Robinson and Ash Brazill and will play a Suncorp Super Netball league game on Sunday 30 April 2017 at Silverdome in Launceston against the Queensland Firebirds.

Collingwood Magpies General Manager of Netball Jen McIntyre said, “We look forward to a long and successful partnership that will make real the dream for a generation of Tasmanian girls to play netball at the highest level and one day have a full time career in netball.”
