Magpies netballer Ash Brazill has nominated for the 2017 AFLW Draft.
Magpies netballer Ashleigh Brazill has nominated for the 2017 AFLW Draft, set to be held on Wednesday 18th October.
With the 2018 Super Suncorp Netball season set to begin in late April following the Commonwealth Games, if drafted, Brazill could play both sporting codes in what would make for a busy calendar for the star athlete.
General Manager of Magpies Netball Jennifer McIntyre said the club would support Brazill’s pursuit to play AFLW.
“We’re happy to support her in that endeavour, she thinks that footy might be something that she does when she retires from netball as a career — she has a real passion for it,’’ McIntyre said.
“We obviously thought long and hard about it, we had the power to stop it happening, but we decided that we wanted her to have the opportunity.
“She had a great year last year, her body has probably been better than it has ever been and we’re excited to see what she can do.’’
The 27-year-old is coming off a career-best season in her first year at the Holden Centre, and is currently preparing for the Fast5 World Netball Series in October, where she’ll line up in the midcourt for the Australian squad.
Before joining the Magpies, Brazill played football in Western Australia during her five years with the West Coast Fever.
Collingwood’s AFLW team holds five picks in the upcoming draft, including two top ten (No.3 and No.9) selections.
