Young defender Mel Bragg has signed a deal for the 2020 season as Ravaillion places her netball career on hold to be a mother for the first time.
Collingwood and Australian mid-courter Kim Ravaillion will place her netball career on hold for 2020.
The 26-year-old will have another priority as she prepares to become a mother for the first time next March. Ravaillion’s news comes just weeks after teammate April Brandley’s baby announcement.
Ravaillion was a foundation Collingwood player who joined the Magpies in 2017 after three years with the Queensland Firebirds, where she won two championships.
She swept on to the netball scene in 2013 in unprecedented fashion, being the only player to debut for the Australian Diamonds before having played a single national league match.
Since then, the centre has been a member of the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold and 2015 World Cup gold Diamonds teams. Ravaillion has won 60 test caps and is known as one of the quickest and most-experienced mid-courters in Australia.
GM of Women’s Sport at Collingwood, Jane Woodlands-Thompson, congratulated Ravaillion on her news.
“We’re delighted for Kim and her partner Adam as they prepare to become parents,” Woodlands-Thompson said.
“Kim was one of our foundation players at the club. She came into the netball scene as a young, fresh mid-courter and we have enjoyed seeing her develop into a world class athlete.”
“We wish her and Adam all the best for the future.”
In other news, young defender Melissa Bragg has signed a deal for the 2020 season.
Bragg joins the ten-woman list after two seasons as a training partner for the Pies. In 2019, the defender co-captained the Tasmanian Magpies ANL side and made four appearances at Suncorp Super Netball level.
Woodlands-Thompson said Bragg’s development with the ANL side has been impressive.
“Mel has grown as a player so much over the past year and has proven to us she is the right fit for what we are trying to create at the club,” Woodlands-Thompson said.
“This year Mel has stepped up in times when she earned her opportunities and we were super impressed by her advanced defensive skillset.
“Mel will be one to watch in 2020.”
