Since the launch of Magpies Netball in September 2016, the team has been well received and has developed an immense amount of support.
Last Friday 16th December, our players finished their training for the year and will return on Wednesday 4th January for their final preparations for the 2017 Suncorp Super Netball League season.
Having only been training with each other for a couple of months, the playing group has already developed a strong bond and has a great team dynamic, particularly between the senior and younger players.
The Magpies open training session at Hisense Arena saw our players and fans side by side for the very first time. It was also a great opportunity for our supports to see just how hard the girls have been training, especially displaying their high intensity and amazing footwork.
The last couple of months of training have also seen improvements for our injured Magpies. Mid-courter, Ash Brazill has returned to full training and is looking extremely fit to join the team for their very first match in 2017. Goal shooter, Cody Lange is progressing well and is likely to return to match play early in the 2017 season.
The naming of our very first leadership group has also been a historic event for the entire club. Madi Robinson will lead the team as the very first Magpies Netball captain and will be supported by vice-co captains, Sharni Layton and Ash Brazill.
The Magpies have also been extremely lucky to secure the support of some fantastic commercial partners. Our co-major partners have been named as IsoWhey and Chemist Warehouse, as well as our other partners including Holden, Samsung, The Three Threes, Diadora, Nike and Beiersdorf. The team is very much looking forward to these partnerships and what they will bring to the team’s inaugural season.
Early in the New Year, the Magpies will have the chance to refine their match play skills before the season begins. Over January 15th and 16th, our girls will head to Sydney and will play practice games against debutants, GWS Giants as well as NSW Swifts.
Following this, our Australian Diamonds will depart to compete in the Quad Series in South Africa and England, returning just a week before the SSL begins.
Additionally, the Magpies first junior netball clinic will take place on Thursday 19th January 9am-3pm at the Holden Centre. This is a great opportunity for our mini magpies to meet their favourite players as well as to improve their footwork, ball skills and general netball abilities.
The Magpies are extremely excited for their team debut which is set to be a blockbuster as we take on state rivals, the Melbourne Vixens, at Hisense Arena, Saturday 18th February at 7pm. We hope to see many of our fans there to support our girls!
To all our supporters, merry Christmas & a happy new year, we look forward to seeing you in 2017.
