The Tasmanian Magpies have today finalised their coaching panel for the upcoming 2020 Australian Netball League (ANL) season.
Jon Fletcher will take the reins as head coach for the Magpies’ fourth season, with Claire Dennis re-appointed as an assistant.
Fletcher, recently inducted into the Tasmanian Netball Hall of Fame, returns to the program having coached the ANL Magpies in their inaugural season of 2017. He has coached at high levels for almost three decades, with state and sports institute roles around Australia.
Dennis returns for a third season as an assistant having been a part of the team’s 2018 gold and 2019 bronze medal campaigns.
Collingwood Magpies’ head coach Rob Wright believes the pair are an excellent combination. The Tasmanian Magpies are the feeder team to the Collingwood Magpies, as such development of young players and training partners is critical.
“Jon has a wealth of coaching experience and is very good at tactical and technical skill development. He is able to invest equally in individual player development as well as overall team performance – a tough balance he manages really well”, Wright said.
“It’s great to have Claire return for a third season. In terms of a coaching group this is a great match, the pair complement each other’s skills really well.
“The Tasmanian Magpies have always been strong contenders and I trust this panel will continue the success of the program.”
ANL trials will be held this month with the addition of six Tasmanian athletes to complete the 2020 squad together with the Collingwood Magpies’ training partners.
